Summer days in Alaska are long and sunny, but everything has its season. And with the lodge closed up tight all winter, and everyone hunkered down, people often ask: what do we do in the off-season?
Being a part of a great Alaskan adventure lodge is a full-time, year-round job but it sure has its perks. When we’re not at home in the mountains, improving the grounds, gardening, planning, building, or wintering in Anchorage, we travel abroad. Winters give us a chance to visit some of the friends we’ve made over the years as hosts to visitors from just about every continent.
We also take the opportunity spread the word about Ultima Thule.
Ellie and Logan have just returned from the exotic Pure Life luxury adventure travel show in Morocco. Pure Life hosts an exclusive gathering for purveyors of life-enriching travel experiences from every corner of the world.
Finding ourselves immersed in Moroccan luxury we took the opportunity to reconnect with the timeless tradition of hospitality that inspires us here at Ultima Thule Lodge.
(See this photo? That’s us, hard at work. Immersing.)
We found Pure LIfe to be a truly special event. As the organizers say, “Pure Life honours the passion of the world’s most inspiring creators of life enriching experiences. Traditional luxury,” they say, “makes way for its daring, high-end younger brother.” We couldn’t have said it better.
It was a memorable four days and though we’re sorry to be leaving Morocco we are surely looking forward to the next stop on our ongoing winter journey.
